In this Wix tutorial, I'm going to show you how to add a search bar to Wix. So, the first thing you need to do is access your Wix website's editor. In your editor, click on the plus icon from the left-hand side panel to add elements. Then click on "Menu & Anchor" and then on "Search" at the bottom.
Under the "Site Search" section, you can add a Wix site search option, where you can give visitors an easy way to search your site. So, let's go ahead and click on the plus button to add site search to our site. A pop-up will appear saying "Adding Wix Site Search." Not only will a search bar appear up top, but also a search results page.
You can click on the search bar and reposition it so that it's in the location of your choice. You can then click on "Settings" to change the placeholder text and to toggle whether you want to show result suggestions when a user starts typing or not, and show trending items before a user starts or not.
Under "Manage Search Results," you can customize a number of things. Under "Main," you can manage what your visitors can search, and customize the way results are displayed by clicking on "Manage Settings." This includes the pages to show in search results and edit what's displayed, such as products, services, blog posts, and other pages. You can also show hidden pages or not.
For each of these pages that are shown in the search results, you can then click on the pencil icon to change the label, text, image layout, what's displayed, the "Add to Cart" button, for instance, if this is a products page, as well as filters.
Under the "Reorder" tab, you can change the order of your search results options, as well as toggle whether you want to show or hide hidden pages. When enabled, site visitors can search for pages that are hidden from search engines in SEO settings.
Under "Display," you can toggle whether you want to show the search bar in the results page or not. Edit the placeholder text, enable or disable the "All" tab, as well as customize the search results messages, such as the number of results in a search term, number of results, or just the search term.
Under "Layout," you can select the menu layout, whether it's aligned to the left, center, or right. You can also choose the number of results per page, as well as their pagination layout, so whether the pagination bar is aligned to the left, center, or right.
At the bottom, you can click on "Design" to customize the design for the search bar, including background opacity and color, border width, border opacity and color, text font and color, icon opacity and color. As well as that, for the results menu, search results, and buttons. You can also click on "Stretch" and then "Unstretch" to adjust the width if that's how you want your search results page to look like.
Once you're happy with the search bar, you add it to your Wix website. Make sure to click on "Publish" on the top right-hand side to make your changes active.
