Wondering how to use ConvertKit newsletter, better known as ConvertKit broadcasts? In this ConvertKit tutorial for beginners, you'll learn how to set up ConvertKit for email marketing. So let's get right into this ConvertKit review and ConvertKit demo on how to use ConvertKit for beginners to create a ConvertKit broadcast.

First off, if you don't have a ConvertKit account yet, just click on the link in the description box below to sign up for free. To use ConvertKit newsletters, log in to your ConvertKit account, click on 'send' from the panel up top, and then on 'broadcasts'.

With ConvertKit broadcasts, you're able to send an email to some, or all, of your audience, and to your public feed. This is where you can view all of the ConvertKit broadcasts that you've scheduled, including their email subject line and scheduled date.

You can also click to view those ConvertKit broadcasts that are drafts, processing, queued and completed. You can even use the search bar to locate a specific broadcast.

To create a new ConvertKit newsletter, click on 'new broadcast' on the top, right-hand side. This will direct you to the ConvertKit legacy editor. I'll first show you how to create and customize a ConvertKit broadcast using this legacy editor, and then using the new ConvertKit editor.

The first thing we can customize in this ConvertKit newsletter is the subject line. Feel free to type in the email subject line of your choice, such as 'ConvertKit tutorial for beginners'.

If you wish to A/B test this subject line, click on A/B on the subject line's right-hand side, and then enter a second email subject line, such as 'how to use ConvertKit newsletter'.

Within this box, you can type out everything that will be added to your ConvertKit broadcast. You can either type in directly into this box, or copy and paste from a word processor, which is what I'm going to do.

You can then select and customize the text you add by making it bold, italic, or deleted, add an unordered list or ordered list, outdent, indent, insert an image, insert a file, insert a link, change the alignment, insert a horizontal rule, change the formatting, view the email's HTML, change the font size, change the font color, and personalize your ConvertKit sequence by inserting merge tags, including subscriber's name, subscriber's name with fallback, subscriber's email address, subscriber's tags and GDPR link.

For instance, next to 'hey', I'll click on 'personalize' and add the subscriber's name. I'll select these two lines of text and make them bold. I'll add an extra space after this line of text, click on 'insert image', choose file, select a file from my documents, and then click on 'open'. Lastly, I'll select this line of text, click on 'link', 'insert link', paste a link to a related blog post in the space provided, and then click on 'insert', and then insert the same link to the image by clicking on it, then on 'edit', pasting the link in the space provided, and then clicking on 'save'.

Once you're done customizing your ConvertKit broadcast, you can select the ConvertKit template that you wish to use, I'll leave mine as account default, and then click on 'preview' to view what your ConvertKit newsletter will look like in your browser.

If you wish to preview this email as a subscriber instead of as yourself, click on 'preview as subscriber' up top, to see what this email will look like for a specific subscriber in your account. You can also click on 'send test email' to send a test email to see how it will look in your email client, such as in Gmail.

I'll now click on 'close preview' on the top, right-hand side, and delete everything we've added to this email to show you how to use and customize a ConvertKit newsletter using the new ConvertKit editor.

To do so, let's click on 'try our new editor' right below the preview button. Whereas the subject line options remain the same, as do the general styles, there no longer is a panel up top with customization options.

You can now add your content in the space provided, and then click on the plus icon that appears on the left-hand side to insert an image, file, button, divider, countdown timer, gallery, video, icons, links, bandsintown, layout, HTML block, personalization, snippet, heading 1, heading 2, heading 3, numbered list, unordered list or blockquote.

Let me insert the same content as we had before, and show you how to customize this ConvertKit broadcast. For instance, next to 'hey', I'll click on the plus icon, on 'personalization' and then on 'add to email' under where it says 'subscriber's first name'. I'll select these two lines of text and make them bold from the floating toolbar that appears. I'll add an extra space after this line of text, click on the plus icon, 'image', click on 'choose files to upload', select a file from my documents, and then click on 'open'. Lastly, I'll select this line of text, click on the 'link' button from the floating toolbar that appears, paste a link to a related blog post in the space provided, and then click on 'add link', and then insert the same link to the image by clicking on it, pasting the link in the URL space provided, and then clicking outside of the image'.

Just as before, once you're done customizing your ConvertKit broadcast, you can select the ConvertKit template that you wish to use, and then click on 'preview' to view what your ConvertKit newsletter will look like in your browser. To send this ConvertKit broadcast now or schedule it for a later date and time, click on 'continue' at the bottom.

You'll be able to preview what the ConvertKit newsletter will look like on the left-hand side, and view the two email subject lines that you selected to A/B test. Select the from address, in my case, that's my business email address, and who you would like to send this ConvertKit email newsletter to, matching any, all or none of the following.

You can send this ConvertKit broadcast to all of your subscribers, to those who are just subscribed to particular forms, sequences, tags, or products, within segment, cold subscribers, within a country or region, distance from a city, distance from a postal code, subscription date, first name, email address or custom field, or even add multiple filter groups.

I usually send my ConvertKit newsletters to all of my subscribers, and then add a filter group matching none of those who are within the segment 'enrolled: don't send', meaning that they are currently enrolled in one of my sequences, be it a welcome sequence, free course or challenge.

You can then select when you would like to send this ConvertKit broadcast: send now or click on the pencil icon to select a specific date and time in the future. You can also toggle whether you wish to post this ConvertKit newsletter to your public feed or not.

This means that you can include your ConvertKit broadcasts in a customizable newsletter feed, embedded directly in your landing page if you so wish. I leave mine turned off.

You can also click on the downward pointing arrow next to 'advanced options' to write your ConvertKit newsletter's preview text, up to 150 characters, which appears after the subject line in the inbox, as well as to add an internal note, which will be displayed throughout the app alongside your subject line, but your subscribers won't see it.

Once you're done filling out all of these sections, either click on the three little dots up top to duplicate this ConvertKit broadcast or delete it, or click on 'continue' at the bottom to send it now or schedule it for later. Make sure that everything looks the way you wish, including the sending from, sending to, broadcast and date and time sections, and then click on 'schedule' at the bottom to successfully use newsletters in ConvertKit.
