Wix Portfolio Tutorial: How To Use Wix To Make A Portfolio Website

Once you've logged into your Wix account, click on "Create New Site" on the top right-hand side. Rather than using Wix's Studio's new editor, let's click on "Create with Wix Editor."

When asked, "What kind of website are you creating?" type in "portfolio," and then click on "Next." Type in what you'd like to call your website. In this case, let's type in "Portfolio Example," and then click on "Next."

Select what you'd like to add to your website, including portfolio, an Instagram feed, a blog, video, online store, chats, bookings, events, pricing plans, forums, music, online programs, forum, groups, file share, table reservations, food orders, restaurant menus, or Bands in Town. I'll select "Portfolio" as well as an Instagram feed, and then click on "Next."

To start using Wix to make a portfolio website, you can either begin with a template or get a custom-built site. Let's click on "Begin with the template."

Since we selected "Portfolio" as our website type, Wix already added a number of portfolio websites that we can customize. It even added two best matches.

Once you've located a Wix portfolio template you enjoy, you can either click to view it, and if it looks like something you'd enjoy editing, click on "Edit the Site." You'll be redirected to the Wix website editor where you can make changes to your template.

You can click on any of the existing elements to edit them, such as the text or images. To add your work, click on the "Add" button from the left-hand side panel, select "Image" or "Gallery," and then click on "Upload Images" to upload your work to your portfolio.

To create new pages for different sections of your portfolio, click on the "Pages" tab on the left, "Manage Pages," "Site Menu," and then "Add Page." You can either add a new blank page or use one of Wix's templates, including "About," "Services," "Projects," "Contact," "General," "Landing Page," "Store," "Bookings," "Blog," "Pricing Plans," or "Dynamic Pages."

I'll select "Projects," choose one of the available templates, and then click on "Add Page." Name your pages accordingly, like "Web Development," "Graphic Design," or "Photography," and then click on "Done."

You can adjust the site's design by clicking on "Site Design" on the left, where you can choose the color theme, text theme, page background, and page transitions to match your style. Additionally, you can click on the header of your website, usually located at the top, and change the background image or color, add your logo, and edit the header text.

To customize your navigation menu, click on "Manage Menu," and from the site menu, you can add or remove pages as well as change the order.

To add your work to the portfolio, navigate to the pages you created for different sections of your portfolio. Click on each page and start adding your work from the "Add Element" section on the left. You can use galleries, images, or even videos to showcase your projects. Don't forget to add captions or descriptions to give your work context.

To configure your Wix portfolio website settings, click on the "Settings" tab up top. You can connect to a domain, get a mailbox, upgrade to a Wix Premium plan, get found on Google by boosting your site's SEO, add a favicon, enter your business information, set up for social, include marketing integrations, set roles and permissions, access the accessibility wizard, make your website more mobile-friendly, sharpen images, edit your website's privacy and cookies, make your website multilingual, and set up a custom 404 error page.

Before publishing your Wix portfolio, click on the "Preview" button up top to see how your website looks, test the navigation, and ensure that all links and buttons work as expected. Once you're satisfied with your Wix's website portfolio, click on "Publish" on the top right corner.

Choose your domain name. If you want a free Wix domain, you can use the default option, or you can connect your own custom domain if you have one. Click on "Save and continue," and now all that's left is to share your portfolio with the world.
