Wondering how to make IGTV thumbnails? In this IGTV thumbnail tutorial, I'll be sharing the exact IGTV thumbnail dimensions as well as where to find IGTV thumbnail templates so that you can make custom thumbnails for IGTV.
By the end of this video, you'll know exactly how to make an IGTV cover with Canva so that you can create the perfect IGTV thumbnail for your IGTV videos. As I mentioned, we'll be using Canva to make IGTV thumbnails. If you don't have a Canva account yet, just click on the link in the description box below to try it for free.
After you've logged in to your Canva account, click on the search bar, and search for 'Instagram story'. Once that option populates, click on it.
If you scroll down this page, you'll see a number of Instagram story templates that you can customize, or if you prefer, you can select a blank Instagram story template to start from scratch. Don't worry too much which Instagram story template you choose since you can always change it later.
Once you've selected an Instagram story design in Canva to customize and make into an IGTV thumbnail, click on it to edit it. As I mentioned, if for some reason you wish to change this Instagram story template to another one, you can click on 'templates' from the left-hand side panel to start fresh with another Instagram story design.
Just like with any regular Canva template, you can click on any elements on the page to customize them, such as the background, text and images, or click on any of the options from the left-hand side panel to add new photos, elements and text into your moodboard design.
For more details on how to customize a Canva design, make sure to watch my video on 'how to use Canva'. I'll leave the link to it in the description box below. You can even change this Instagram story entirely to fit your own IGTV thumbnail needs by adding your own colors and fonts.
Once you're done customizing your IGTV cover photo, rename your Canva design up top, and then click on 'download'. Choose whether you wish this IGTV thumbnail to be a PNG or JPG image, and then click on the 'download' button to save your finished IGTV thumbnail to your computer.
To add this IGTV cover photo to your IGTV video, either download the image from the Canva app on your phone, or use Airdrop to wirelessly send to your phone the IGTV cover photo you just created. If you don't know how to do that, make sure to watch my video on 'how to transfer photos from iPhone to Mac'. I'll leave the link to it in the description box below.
On IGTV, once you reach this 'cover' section, instead of using the slider to select an IGTV thumbnail from a frame from your IGTV video, click on 'add from camera roll' at the bottom to select an image from your camera roll. Click on the IGTV cover photo you created in Canva, and then follow the steps to finish uploading your IGTV video.
