3 Easy Ways To Increase Blog Traffic With Facebook Groups

One of the most effective ways to increase blog traffic is with Facebook groups. They provide you with a pool of like-minded individuals, are great to establish yourself as an expert in your niche, and are perfect to understand the underlying struggles and desires of your ideal audience.

Thing is, due to the vast number of active users per group, Facebook groups can be hard to conquer. You need to come in with a targeted strategy, to rise to the top and stand out from the crowd. And that’s exactly what we’ll be talking about today.

1. How To Find Facebook Groups Worth Joining

Want to join Facebook groups to increase blog traffic, but don't know where to start? Click here to access a FREE spreadsheet with 100+ of the very best Facebook groups for bloggers and online entrepreneurs. They're perfect to increase blog traffic and to maximize your online presence.

If you’re in another niche, or are searching for even more Facebook groups to join, here are some pointers to find Facebook groups worth joining:

  • Search for specific keywords related to your niche. If you’re a blogger, for instance, search for keywords like ‘blogging’, ‘digital nomad, ‘online entrepreneur’ and ‘social media marketing’. If you’re a foodie, search for keywords like ‘recipes’, ‘cooking’, ‘chefs’, ‘food’, and ‘restaurant’. If you’re a DIY craftswoman, search for keywords like ‘arts and crafts’, ‘handmade crafts’, ‘DIY ideas’, and ‘DIY projects’.

  • Sort through the Facebook groups that appear by analyzing the number of members in the group. I tend to join Facebook groups that have between 500 to 5000 members, but am open to joining groups with more or less members depending on the group’s rules and level of activity. If the Facebook group is public, it’s possible to gauge this before joining. If not, right after you join the group, analyze its level of activity, the engagement between members, and the number of posts per day.

  • Find groups that foster conversation, but that also allow blog post and/or lead magnet promotions. Read the group rules to find out what is and what isn’t encouraged. Discard groups that forbid promotion, since this won’t help you drive traffic to your blog. Groups with specific daily threads are ideal, since these direct your comments, and make it easier to interact with the other group members.

Once you’re added to a new group, create a spreadsheet (or just use the one I created with 100+ Facebook groups for bloggers and online entrepreneurs) to sort each group based on what day of the week they offer promotional threads. For easy access, make sure that you create four columns: name of group, promo type (in other words, what the promo thread is called), promo day, and link.

2. How To Explode Your Blog’s Traffic With Facebook Groups

So here’s the groundbreaking secret to explode your traffic with Facebook groups: post in them multiple times a day, be it to promote your lead magnets, to promote your blog posts, to answer questions, to promote your social media channels, or to promote something else.

I tend to post 3 different things at 3 different times per Facebook group per day.

Just think about it.

If you only post once a day, say at 10am EST, and someone logs into the group at 5pm, your comment will be lost in a sea of other comments, and never see the light of day. When posting multiple times a day in the same promo thread, or directly on the Facebook group’s timeline, just make sure you delete your first comment when posting the second, and that you delete the second comment when you post the third, and so on and so forth. This will ensure that you don’t become a spammer, and get banned from the group.

Play around with different times until you see what gets you the best results. As a rule of thumb, try to post something before noon, something mid-afternoon, and something closer towards the evening.

3. How To Stand Out In Facebook Groups

Even if you’re posting 3 different things per day per Facebook group, you need your comment to stand out from the crowd. Most people think about their promotional caption on the spot, and with that post a link to the blog post and/or lead magnet. I’m going to advise you NOT to do that. Instead, follow these powerful tips:

  • Facebook doesn’t allow you to repeatedly post the same caption over and over again. As such, for each blog post and lead magnet that you create, write 2-3 captions in advance. Start off with a question that targets a struggle your ideal audience wishes to solve, and offer your blog post or lead magnet as a solution. When promoting, mix and match the captions that you use so that Facebook doesn’t mark you as a spammer.

  • Instead of having the small thumbnail of your blog post or lead magnet automatically pop up in your comment, create a separate image to promote your offers. I opt for the ‘Square Social Media Graphic’ option in Canva, which is 800 pixels by 800 pixels. This ensures that your comments takes up more space on the screen, which helps it stand out from the sea of other comments.

  • Plan out on Friday afternoon at what time, and what blog post and lead magnets, you’ll be promoting Monday to Friday of the following week. When that day and time come around, open in different tabs all the Facebook groups that allow promotions on that day, locate the promo thread, and post your comment using the guidelines above.

Key Takeaways:

To increase blog traffic with Facebook groups, and to establish yourself as a thought leader in your niche, you need to approach Facebook groups with a targeted strategy.

  • Join Facebook groups in your niche that have 500 to 5000 active members, that foster conversation, and that allow promotions.

  • Post 3 different things at 3 different times per Facebook group per day.

  • Write 2-3 promotional captions in advance for each of your blog posts and lead magnets, create a separate image to promote your offers, and plan beforehand at what times and what exactly you’ll be posting the following week in the Facebook groups you joined.

It’s your turn now. Let me know in the comments below what strategy to increase blog traffic with Facebook groups you’re most excited to try out.
