There’s no denying that I’m a big fan of Canva. It’s evident by the sheer number of step-by-step tutorials on this blog using the graphic design tool. However, with more and more bloggers using Canva, it’s getting harder to create visual content that stands out online, be it unique graphics, explanatory infographics, or professional presentations.
Now you may be asking, “What's Canva? What’s Visme? What’s the difference between Canva and Visme? Which is the best graphic design tool for beginners - Canva or Visme? Is Visme a good Canva alternative or should I just upgrade to Canva for Work?” Well, let’s dive in to the Canva vs Visme debate.
What's Canva?
Canva is the premier graphic design tool for beginners. It's great for all different kinds of graphics you need to create, from workbooks to social media posts. You can use it to make graphics that look professional, without using or having to learn complicated software like Photoshop and Illustrator. Canva as a whole is free, and if you do decide to go with a premium template or image, you only pay $1 for each.
The pre-set design you choose is perfectly sized to fit your needs (for instance, a Pinterest graphic is exactly 735px x 1102px), and you can choose from a number of pre-made templates made by professional designers. The fonts, layout and colors all match, but you can easily customize the chosen template with your preferred text, icons, and backgrounds.
What’s Visme?
Visme is an online tool that allows you to create professional-looking social graphics, presentations, and infographics with just one learning curve. Just like with Canva, you can use Visme directly from your browser. The platform is simple and intuitive for non-designers like you and me, so we can easily create stunning visuals in minutes, not hours.
You can publish your designs online, make them private, embed them to a site, or even download them for offline use. The best part is that you can add interactivity to your designs created with Visme, such as video, audio, and third party widgets.
What’s the difference between Canva and Visme?

Which is the best graphic design tool for beginners - Canva or Visme?
It depends on your needs. Canva is great to create professional-looking designs, like social media posts, documents, blogging and e-book graphics, marketing materials, email headers, event materials, and ads. Click here to check out my step-by-step Canva tutorials.
Although you can use Visme to create social media graphics, documents, printables and web graphics, it really stands out in its ability to create stunning presentations and infographics with the click of a button.
With Visme, you can include a number of interactive features to your visuals to bring static content to life:
- You can animate any object and assign actions (ex. links, pop-ups, and rollovers). - You can add video or audio. - You can embed content from third parties (ex. maps, polls, and forms). - You can set your own templates and brand guidelines. - You can track traffic and engagement of your content (with full analytics features). - You can create your own library of slides and content, as well as a media library.
Is Visme a good Canva alternative or should I just upgrade to Canva for Work?
In terms of paid plans, Canva for Work costs $9.95 per month when paid annually or $12.95 when paid monthly.
Visme offers two types of plans for individuals: Standard and Complete (which is the one I use). The Standard plan costs $12 per month when paid annually or $19 when paid monthly, and the Complete plan costs $20 per month when paid annually or $30 when paid monthly.
As you can see, Visme is more expensive than Canva for Work. As such, this begs the question: is Visme worth it, even with the additional $2-8 per month on an annual plan?
Here’s how Visme and Canva for Work are different:
- Canva for Work is great for social media graphics. It has a one-click tool that automatically resizes your designs so that they are the correct size for different social media platforms. It completely takes the hassle out of cropping and resizing your design.
- Visme has more functionalities when it comes to creating presentations and infographics. If you want to create webinar or online course graphics that wow, or want to easily customize an infographic, this is the tool for you.
In other words, if possible, you can, and should, use both. If you're just starting out in your business, start out with Canva or Canva for Work. As your business grows, and you're ready to monetize your blog with affiliate marketing, webinars, and online courses, make sure to add Visme into the mix.
